The very spirit of a community is captured in its churches. Its heart and soul can be seen in the
size and design of its places of worship. St Mary's Catholic Church, with its twin gothic spires,
dominates the skyline of Ipswich .
One of the commonest tales concerns a ghost, reputed to be that of an old priest, who played
the pipe organ inside St Mary's.
While the Catholic Church does not accept the existence of ghosts and belief in the
supernatural, and say that these stories are just the product of overactive imaginations, there is
something sweet and innocent about the ghost tales told by the children who attended church
there, that have perpetuated the awareness of their past and become part of their childhood at
St Mary's.

"I swear I saw a shadow moving in one of the tower windows. My friends all saw it too."
